I've been very busy and that's why I haven't blogged in very many months. And I think I deleted a bunch of posts by accident so...sorry about that.
Anyways a lot has happened in the past 6 months.
Vidya Balan married the top guy at UTV, her SRK - Siddharth Roy Kapoor therefore adding one more title to her kitty along with "splendid actress" - that of being a top Bollywood bahu. She is a smart girl, that one. Played her moves really well. And therefore, she is in a GREAT place in the industry now. Things cannot get any better!
Sanjay Dutt went to jail and whined and complained about the bed, the size of his cell, the toilets, his "job" at the jail, the location of the jail, the food, not being able to smoke (like, oh my god!!) and everything he
could complain about.
Even after multiple visits to prison, he doesn't understand that jail isn't supposed to be a luxury facility.
Some of our so-called "Bollywood ambassadors" went to the Cannes Film Festival. Aish looked like she had lost some weight and she looked alright in all her outfits - she isn't a big experimenter unfortunately. She sticks to all the same kind of stuff. Her father in law on the other hand was on the red carpet and was applauded for a blink-and-you-miss-it appearance in The Great Gatsby. His fashion choices were so bad I wondered who picked out his clothes. Sonam Kapoor, the woman in Bollywood who India turns too when the word "fashion" is talked of, made some interesting choices - some good, some terrible.
Vidya Balan boringly stuck to Sabyasachi for the entire festival and perfected her aunty look some more.
Mallika Sherawat attended the festival and toned down the boobage and the skin show. She made up for the stupid outfits by opening her mouth and calling India regressive and then blatantly lying about a bunch of Bollywood stuff like how she was the first Bollywood actress to wear a bikini and kiss on screen. Someone needs to fire her PR team- clearly someone wasn't doing their homework! And where did she pick up that accent from? People in LA DO NOT talk like that! That accent is worse than Aish's during that Oprah interview.
I like Frieda Pinto - she carries herself extremely well and has handled her transition from India to Hollywood gracefully. She has developed an accent as well but at least, it is more believable than ridiculous!
Bollywood turned 100 last month and 4 directors - Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar, Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Bannerjee came together to create 4 short stories into one film. Karan's was undoubtedly the best - its hard to imagine that the guy who churns out fluff like Student of the Year is able to put out hard hitting stuff as well. Yes I know he did My Name is Khan and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna but they had their own dose of melodrama. Bombay Talkies was short and straight to the point.
The film makers brought together the biggies of Bollywood into one song - Apna Bombay Talkies and conveniently left out Salman Khan and the Bachchans - the people who have made one of the bigger impacts on Bollywood.
The IPL didn't turn out so well for the Rajasthan Royals when a few of their players were accused of match fixing and their owner, Raj Kundra accused of betting and therefore suspended by BCCI. He played the poor-little-rich-NRI-who-didn't-know-the-Indian-laws game to try and get out of it and issued statements on Twitter and elsewhere proclaiming innocence. I am sure corruption is rampant in the IPL, the Royals just got screwed over coz their players got caught.
Elsewhere, Harbhajan Singh tried to do a Dwayne Bravo and made the Bhangam style infamous. Seriously, watch it. Its horrible.
Jiah Khan of Nishabd fame committed suicide over a boy. Seriously, over a boy. As much as I felt for her when I read her letter that her mom released to the media, I was that much more angry that she ended her life because her boyfriend was a jackass. She clearly needed a lot of help and support - personal and professional (from therapists). Sooraj Pancholi's career looks like its over before it began and Salman Khan's name invariably got dragged into this mess. Aditya Pancholi was never known to be a gentleman so its a shame he imparted similar values to his son.
What a waste of a life. I hope her family gets some closure.
Priyanka Chopra lost her father to cancer a few days ago. And unlike Jiah's funeral and prayer meet, Dr Ashok Chopra's funeral and prayer meet were graced with the cream of Bollywood. Ranvir Singh (who I just cannot stand) walked out of the prayer meet laughing with food in his hand - it looked like a fried pakora. I hope his trainer kicks his butt.
Condolences to the Chopra clan.
This is all I can think of for now. I am sure there are other events I may have missed. Feel free to add your comments to my 6-month summary.
