Marketing gimmicks

So Kunal Kohli decided to shoot a song for Teri Meri Kahani with Shahid "I don't like cameras" Kapoor and Priyanka "look atme, I am pretty" Chopra at Aurangabad after the givernment refused to give permission to restrict an area of the shoot. 
Fans found out and rushed to the site for a glimpse of the duo which caused mayhem. the 2 couldn't drive and had to walk to the interior of the fort surrounded by a sea of aggressive and unruly people. Shahid being the stud he thinks he is, came to Priyanka's rescue even shielding her from the madness as they walked in.
Producer Kunal is apparently upset with people putting up pictures froom the shoot o the web.


Way to drum up publicity for your film, Kunal!!
First you pick a spot that you know you can't restrict to your film unit. Then you bring 2 very popular stars together knowing that you will cause madness and then you complain that there is no way to control pictures being posted online which "gives away" the "look" of the lead pair! 
And the "a source" who basically is from your marketing team talks of Shahid shielding PC which drives speculation about the lead pair! Nice going!

Airport sightings

Holy!! so Bipasha Basu celebrated her 33rd birthday John-less but with a bunch of friends or so she says! Just look at the village-pahelwan-fisherwoman-stripper cake her friends surprised her with. They think this is what she looks like!! They should have included mini images of Ranbir, Rana, Shahid all of her exploits post-John - would have accurately reflected her last year!

Bigg Boss is in the news again!

And for all kinds of reasons!
So we know that Pooja Bedi made all kinds of allegations against Salman and got herself uninvited from the Bigg Boss finale.
Hrithik Roshan also incurred the wrath of Salman when he was asked not to show up with Karan Johar for Agneepath promotions. 


But now news on the block is that Priyanka "I love SRK so much in an innocent and non-creepy way" Chopra has been invited with gayman Johar to promote Agneepath. Maybe Suzanne can sing that Gun Gun Guna song for him to cheer him up :P
Anyways, bad jokes aside, the Bigg Boss finale will have Salman's sis-in-law MILF Malaika Arora-Khan shaking it to a medley of her item songs and Salman and Sanjay attempting to shake it to something - since both of them have 2 left feet, it will be an interesting watch.
Mr Johar will promote Agneepath (with PC) and EMAET (with Imran Khan).

Dharma released the video of the Gun Gun Guna song from Agneepath featuring Priyanka and Hrithik. Its no Chikni Chameli but its alright. A little overacting from Priyanka but she is in good shape for sure! Take a look.

Friday reviews

Players is out and the reviews are in! And they aren't as spectacular as people thought they would be.
The film didn't quite open to full halls either which isn't a good sign.
Will YOU go watch it? 


Taran Adarsh wasn't impressed and gave it a 2/5 - PLAYERS rides mainly on the clout of its credible director duo [Abbas-Mustan], daredevil stunts and stunning visuals. But, most importantly, it is deficient of a captivating screenplay. Also, the film could have done with judicious trimming for an enhanced impact. I for one went in with colossal expectations, but came out feeling downcast and disheartened.


Komal Nahta pretty much trashed it with a 1/5 - 
While the story is interesting, the screenplay botches the attempt so badly that the film turns out to be a boring fare. On top of it, the drama is so long-drawn that it tests the audience’s patience, especially in the second half. Probably, the worst part of the drama is that the key players are so laid-back in their approach that they should never have been successful, yet success comes knocking at their door always. Also, the audience’s sympathy goes to no character in the film, because of which the viewer remains an outsider and never ever gets involved with the drama. Dialogues, also penned by Rohit Jugraj and Sudip Sharma, lack the fire and the thrill.


Nikhat Kazmi was a little more giving and awarded itwith a 3.5 / 5 - Abhishek once again reprises the character of Dhoom he seems to have perfected while Bipasha goes glam as in Race. But eventually, it is Neil Nitin Mukesh (Spider), the ultimate no-strings-attached man, wild gambler at heart with a twist in the soul and tango in the feet, who slam dances his way away as the ultimate crook. Music by Pritam is good while it lasts. 


The Daily Bhaskar gave it a 3/5 - Direction by Abbas-Mustan, Cinematography and edgy plotline are the strong points. Music, dialogues, performances besides Bips and Neil are the weak points. On the whole, Players is not flawless but can be given a shot for once.

Emraan moves up

And how!
So after his performance was praised in the Dirty Picture, Karan Johar scooped Serial-kisser up for a movie under Dharma productions which will be directed by Rensil DSilva.
And Resil had a film in mind with Salman for 2012. However, Salman has busied himself for the coming year which forced Rensil to work on another script. Serial kisser will be part of this film.
Its been pretty well known that Karan has been dying to do a film with Salman. and maybe this is Karan's way of making gayman Johar wait for him!!
Emran's come a long way - he is actually being talked for for something else other than his snogging skills!

Zee Cine Awards 2012

As you know Zee Cine Awards announced the list of nominees for the popular awards. The ceremony will be held in Macau on Jan 21, 2012 (mark your calendars!!). 

You can vote for your favorite nominee through the Zee Awards website 

Here is the complete list with my comments - 

It's going to be a battle between Chammak Challo and Character Dheela. SRK and Salman's fans will crash the Zee system trying to prove they are the bigger fan. Will be funny if Char Baj Gaye wins. I mean, its a cool song and all but not award-worthy.



This really should be between Don2 and ZNMD - who will Javed cheer for? But I have a feeling it will be between Don2, Singham and Bodyguard.



Ooh snap! SRK's home production Ra.One didn't even make it to the list. Salman must have gotten the best Christmas present ever when he heard of this.



The only deserving person here is Vidya Balan. None of the other actresses came close to her in 2011. Maybe Priyanka Chopra with her Saat Khoon Maf weirdness. But I still think it should be Vidya.



SRK may win this one although I liked Hrithik in ZNMD. Ranbir was also good in Rockstar so this one is tough. Can't stand Creepy Devgan and Salman in Bodyguard made me want to throw the remote at him. SRK better not win for Ra.One though - that movie was a torture!



No clue what this category stands for. I have a feeling Ranbir Kapoor will get it - gotta keep the Kapoors happy or Rishi Kapoor will throw a tantrum.



This may be between Kareena and Sonam - they've been both actively involved outside the country. Katrina Kaif IS International though :P


The Dirty Picture really dominated in all the popular award categories except the Best Male actor category. I guess Serial Kisser's performance wasn't deemed award worthy.

Kajol's mom makes news...for the wrong reasons!

The logo reminds me of the  Kardashians!!!

So it turns out that Kajol's forgotten sister Tanisha and mom Tanuja dined at fancy-shmancy Hakkasan in Bandra last week. Tanuja ordered more than she and her daughter could stuff so they asked to take leftovers home.
Apparently the restaurant refused to let them take the leftovers stating instead that they would be thrown out. So Tanuja tried again and was let down again. She paid the bill and left, quite upset with the restaurant,


Now, Ajay Beri, COO of Hakkasan Mumbai has a different story. He maintains that they refused the request for packing leftovers but that Tanuja was drunk and abused the staff at the restaurant. On the reason for refusing Tanuja's request - 
This is to ensure that the food does not harm anybody as there are different temperatures in which the food is cooked and consumed at the restaurant. We are not sure of when and how the food will be taken outside the restaurant


WTF??? What type of food is being prepared here that it must be consumed at the restaurant? If it can be eaten inside the restaurant, why can't it be eaten outside? Does this mean they do not cater? And what DO they do with the leftovers? If they throw them its a shame considering there are so many hungry people that die everyday.
If Tanuja was drunk indeed, shame on her. But the restaurant's policy makes no sense in any way. I am on Tanuja's side on this one.

Players in Dubai

Madhuri is getting waxed

So after Sanjay said that Madhuri should stop acting and take car of her kids when she returned to India (on Koffee with Karan), Madhuri ignored that "valuable" piece of advice and stuck around trying to cling on to anything that was worth doing.
And it looks like the clinging may have worked!Coz she is now being waxed!

Hello magazine did a mother-daughter spread with a few mothers and daughters dedicated to Abu Jani and Sandep Khosla who completed 25 years in the industry. The ladies are all wearing the duo's creations.
Surprised that Kareena and Kajol didn't make it - but then again, we know of Kareena's love for some Manish Malhotra!

Awwww. Deepika Padukone's lapdog boyfriend Siddharth Mallya threw her a birthday party as she turned 26 today. she's been with mallya-boy for a while now. How long did the Ranbir thing last? Maybe this one's money is a keeper!

The poster of Jism 2 was released today. That isn't Sunny Leonne in the picture but I am sure Sunny will be doing just this and much more for fans of erotica. Another movie from the Bhatt camp that you should NOT watch with your parents or children!

And the trailer of Jodi Breakers is out as well with a rounder Madhavan and Bipasha who executes lip-locks pretty easily considering she said it was so hard for her to do that on screen! Omi Vaidya is his funny self.
Looks alright, will give it more thought after I see another trailer or so. Reminds me a little of Govinda in Life Partner. Take a look.

The trailer for Vidya Balan's Kahaani is out and OMG - it is absolutely insane!
It looks like she is looking for a husband who doesn't exist. She has done a complete 180 from her Dirty Picture avatar. She's definitely come a long way!

Salman rules (again!)

Do you remember Pooja Bedi? she did the whole Marilyn Monroe-dress-flying-over-the-vent thing in Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander. Anyways, she participated in the Indian version of Big Brother, Bigg Boss and was evicted in November 2011. She then accused Bigg Boss host he-dwarf Salman Khan of unfair treatment and favourtism towards other members of the house.
Of course this didn't sit too well with Salman and he promptly cracked his whip and had the channel tell Pooja to stay away from the Bigg Boss finale. Pooja now wants an "official explanation" on why the channel doesn't want her there (yea, good luck on getting that!). Between bending over for Salman or Pooja, I think the channel would bend over a hundred times for Salman!
Also, Hrithik Roshan was going to be on the Bigg Boss finale to promote Chikni Chameli Agneepath. Salman not a big fan of Hrithik when he put his foot in his mouth in response to Salman's comments on Guzaarish decided he ain't having any of that and so cracked his whip again. So now he got puppy-eyed Imran Khan with gaystud Karan Johar to promote Ek Main Aur ek Tu at the finale. So Hrithik's loss is Imran's gain!
Of course there are now reports that Salman is ticked off at all the controversy and wants to stay away from the finale himself.
The producers must be going crazy getting ready to kiss his ass to make sure he doesnt stay away - they know what brings the TRPs

Its official!

Saif and Kareena completed shooting for their ever-delayed Agent Vinod just before Christmas and then headed off for the holidays.
Sriram raghavan, the director FINALLY confirmed the release date of the film as March 23. Interestingly Kunal Khemu's (Saif's sister's boyfriend) movie Blood Money releases on the same day. AWKWARD for Soha - is she going to support the brother or the boyfriend?
more interestingly, Saif and Kareena plan to get married immediately after the release - sometime in mid-April. Thats an cheap easy way to drum up publicity for the movie. There is going to be lots of curiosity about the movie since the lead pair is tying the knot immediately after. Kareena sure knows how to make sure she dominates the news!! 

Sad

2 pretty well known producers made some rather disturbing statements acknowledging male dominance in the film industry. While I agree that it is male dominated, it is comments like these that assert that the top guys are not willing to take chances and make a difference in trends and instead support mindsets like these.
Someone should show them The Dirty Picture, No One Killed Jessica, Fashion, Murder, Black, Chameli, Chandi Bar and I am sue there are many more.


Heroines have a limited age in acting. And whether the hero has a hit or a flop with a heroine, he wants to be paired up with a different face each time.
Also, a fresh pair with a newer actress adds to the glamour quotient and also increases the audience curiosity.
-----S Kumar Mohan, one of the producers of Sanjay Dutt's Thaanedaar Returns, on pairing younger actresses with older actors.
Of course, he would say that. He is working with Sanjay Dutt who loves pairing himself with women half his age - gotta kiss your lead man's ass! And Sanjay believes in "protecting" the women of his family like his sisters and daughters who are not allowed to become actors because of the "nature of the film industry" of which he is a part and such a major contributor to this "nature". What a male chauvinist!


Both Hollywood and Bollywood are hero-oriented industries. Although of late, heroines have been getting their due abroad and here, no heroine can make a film run on her own steam the way a hero can. While the heroine-oriented subjects are exceptions, they form only a small number of the movies made every year.

I guess Rani made Aditya cough up that alimony to get his first wife Payal out of the way so Rani could marry her long time smush buddy and make it official!
Rani Mukherjee was spotted with Aditya "Don't take my picture" Chopra at the International Airport in Mumbai returning from New Year celebrations in New York and London. They didn't make a ploy and run in the opposite direction and instead were OK to being photographed together. Even more surprising - Aditya's parents Yash and Pamela were with them as well. Family trip! What happenned to all the "we love Payal and will never accept Rani" mantra? Or have they simply given up??
Does this mean wedding bells are to follow for the pair? Wow, 2012 is the year of celeb weddings!!

New Year tidbits

It must be NICE to be Vivek "I love press conferences" Oberoi. People apparently still care about him and show up to events where he is being  paid to dance. Case in point - At a New Year's performance, he was scheduled to perform and didn't end up performing since the organizers didn't get the relevant permission for him to perform (isn't that one of the first things you should check??). So he didn't perform and still got paid 80 lakh rupees for doing squat!! 

SRK was the family man  for the holidays. He flew the fam to Dubai, hurt his ribs, played some soccer (or tried to with his broken ribs), got yelled at by his maid (yea right!!), worked on getting his laptop fixed and played with his kids.Suhana looks like a cuter version of SRK and Aryan could care less about the picture.

Duckface Nargis Fakhri spent the new year with family and friends in NYC. Do you think she saw LMFAO  and Pitbull perform in Times Square?














Ameesha Patel spent New Year in Thailand with friends - that most likely includes current smush-buddy - Kunal Goomer. She must really like him - she just got him a 38 lakh Rupees car! Happy Holidays Mr Goomer, indeed!








Madhuri Dixit spent the New Year in Maldives. She had her own little island (really!!) and went snorkelling and scuba diving! Will you look at how clear that water is????

Priyanka Chopra partied it up with friends on a beach in some part of the world - she refuses to disclose the location for some reason even now considering the vacation is over. Can you tell where this is?

Its 2012!!!  And I've been away from this blog for SO LONG!
